Game Guide
The basics for new Governors: how to grow your city, build your army and make your commanders stronger.
First steps and Athena
After the Great Fracture, your people found refuge in new lands. You are their Governor. Your task is to build them a new home, grow your city and make your army strong.
At the start you choose a civilization. Your civilization sets your starting commander and the colors of your city.
Your advisor Athena is with you from day one. She guides you step by step as you build your first Farm and Lumber Mill, collect your harvest, upgrade your City Center and walls, and train your first infantry in the Barracks. When your first quests are done, your starting commander takes command of your army.
“Welcome, Governor! I am Athena, your advisor.”
You can skip Athena's guidance if you like. If this is your first game, we suggest you follow her to the end: it is the fastest way to learn the basics.
Build your city
The City Center
The heart of your city is the City Center. No other building can be higher in level than the City Center. As it grows, new buildings unlock, your army capacity grows and your city enters a new age. To upgrade the City Center, you first need to upgrade your walls and the next required building.
From age to age
Your city starts in the Stone Age and grows through the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, the Dark Age and the Feudal Age. In each new age the architecture of your buildings changes, and your city celebrates the new age with a ceremony.
Free placement
You can place your buildings on any free spot, and buildings can stand side by side. Moving a building is free and works even while it is under construction. You can swap the places of two buildings, and streets are drawn automatically. The City Center, the main square and the main roads stay where they are.
Buildings
| Type | Buildings |
|---|---|
| Resources | The Farm makes Food, the Lumber Mill makes Wood, the Quarry makes Stone and the Gold Mine makes Gold. The Storehouse protects part of your resources from raids. |
| Military | The Barracks trains infantry, the Stable trains cavalry, the Archery Range trains archers and the Siege Workshop builds siege units. The Hospital heals badly wounded troops. The Castle raises your army capacity and unlocks the Group Attack. The walls defend your city. |
| Growth | Technologies are researched in the Academy, and the Hall of Wisdom speeds up research. Chests are opened in the Treasury. Commander equipment is forged at the Blacksmith. The Scout Camp sends out scouts. |
| Trade and alliance | Caravans with discounted goods visit the Market, and the Trade Center lowers market prices. The Alliance Center increases the alliance help you can receive. The Watchtower warns you about barbarian raids in advance. |
Build times and speed-ups
Every construction and upgrade takes time, and higher levels take longer. You can shorten the time with Speed-up items or finish at once with Diamonds. Help sent by your alliance members also cuts the time. You start with one build queue; a second builder can be hired for a while with Diamonds.
Resources and Diamonds
The basic resources of your city are Food, Wood, Stone and Gold. Buildings, troops and research all cost these resources.
- Production in the city: Resource buildings store what they produce. Tap a building to collect it. Storage has a limit, so do not leave it uncollected for too long.
- Gathering on the map: Send an army to a Grain Field, Forest, Quarry or Gold Mine on the world map to gather resources.
- Protection: The Storehouse keeps part of your resources safe from raids. Grow it together with your city.
Diamonds are the precious gems of the game. Use them to finish tasks at once, fill in missing resources, buy keys and items, or teleport. You can earn Diamonds from Campaign idle earnings, daily chests, login rewards and events.
Army and troop classes
Your army has four kinds of troops: infantry, cavalry, archers and siege. Each class is trained in its own building. Stronger tiers unlock through research in the Academy, and you can later upgrade the troops you have trained to a higher tier.
| Class | Building | Tiers |
|---|---|---|
| Infantry | Barracks | Spearman → Swordsman → Shield Swordsman → Heavy Infantry → Guard |
| Cavalry | Stable | Rider → Light Cavalry → Lancer → Heavy Cavalry → Armored Cavalry |
| Archers | Archery Range | Slinger → Archer → Composite Bowman → Master Archer → Marksman |
| Siege | Siege Workshop | Battering Ram → Catapult → Traction Catapult → Trebuchet → Bombard |
Class advantage
Each class has another class it beats:
Infantry beats cavalry, cavalry beats archers and archers beat infantry. Siege units hit hard but are at a disadvantage against other troops. Look at the enemy's formation and send the right troops to the front: it can change the outcome of the battle.
Army capacity
The number of troops in one army grows with your City Center, the Castle, Academy research and the level of the army's main commander. The number of armies you can send to the map at the same time also grows as your City Center rises.
Wounded troops and the Hospital
You do not lose troops in battles against barbarians: most fallen troops are only stunned and come back unharmed, some come back lightly wounded and recover when they enter the city. Badly wounded troops are healed in the Hospital for resources and time. If the Hospital is full, the extra wounded may be lost, so grow your Hospital together with your army.
The Campaign
The Campaign is a path of battles you clear stage by stage. You place your troops on the battlefield and try to defeat the enemy army. You earn stars in every stage, and each chapter has star chests and strong boss battles. The further you go, the stronger the enemies and the bigger the rewards.
- Idle Earnings: Unlocks after you clear the first stage. Loot keeps piling up every hour even while you are away: resources, Experience Books and Diamonds. It fills up to a limit, so collect it when you come back.
- Quick Earnings: Get a few hours of loot right away without waiting; your stored earnings stay untouched. The first Quick Earnings of the day is free.
Tip: Stuck on a stage? Check the enemy's troop classes and change your formation to use class advantage. Making your commanders stronger is often the quickest way forward.
The world map
Beyond your city walls lies a wide world map. This is where you send your armies.
- Resource points: Grain Fields, Forests, Quarries and Gold Mines. Points disappear after a while and new ones appear elsewhere. The closer you get to the middle of the map, the higher their level and the more they give.
- Barbarian Camps: Attack them with a single army; each attack costs Energy, which refills over time. After a win you can chain your attack on to a nearby camp.
- Barbarian Forts: Much stronger than camps. You take them on with a Group Attack, which the Castle unlocks. Camps and forts drop loot, equipment materials and blueprints.
- Scouting: Scouts from your Scout Camp explore caves, villages and ruins on the map.
A shared world
The map is a shared world for all Governors. New cities settle in different parts of the map, and you can see other players' cities. Tap a city to see its Governor's name, level and civilization; friendly cities are green and rivals are red. You can bookmark interesting places. Interaction between players will grow with future updates.
Alliances and Alliance Territory
Join an alliance or found your own with Diamonds. Alliance members send each other help to cut build and research times, and earn alliance gifts and alliance credit.
Alliances build an Alliance Headquarters and Alliance Towers on the map to form their own territory. These structures are built with alliance credit and time.
- Inside the territory, gathering and marching are faster and members get a defense bonus.
- When the territory reaches a map structure, the alliance can attack and capture it. The structure's bonus then works for every member.
- Troops can be placed as a garrison in the headquarters, the towers and captured structures.
The game keeps growing; alliance features are expanding step by step together with the shared world.
Teleport
Teleports move your city to another place on the map. Before you teleport, bring your marching armies back to the city.
- Beginner Teleport: Free for new cities. In your first days it moves you to a spot you choose in the outer part of the map.
- Targeted Teleport: To a free spot you choose on the map.
- Alliance Teleport: Into your own alliance's territory.
- Random Teleport: To a random spot in the same part of the map.
How commanders grow stronger
Every army is led by a commander. Commanders are great names from history and come in Elite, Epic or Legendary rarity. Meet some of them on the Commanders page.
Getting commanders
Commanders come from statues found in the chests you open in the Treasury. A Silver Key opens a Silver Chest and a Gold Key opens a Gold Chest; both chests also have free openings from time to time. When you collect enough statues of a commander, you can summon them. Every civilization has a starting commander, and your first Gold Chest always gives an Elite commander of your civilization.
Ways to grow
- Level: Rises with Experience Books and battles. The level cap depends on the commander's stars.
- Stars: Raised with statues and Gold; each star lifts the level cap.
- Talent Tree: Each level gives talent points. Spend them in the commander's class branch, specialty branch or the Leadership branch. You can reset your points and spend them again later.
- Skills: The active skill fires in battle when rage is full. Passive skills boost attack, defense and health, and rage and march speed. Skills are unlocked and raised with statues; when all of them reach the top, the commander's Specialty skill unlocks.
- Equipment: Weapons, armor, helmets and amulets are forged at the Blacksmith. Pieces belong to the Assault, Bulwark, Wisdom and Hunter sets, and can be enhanced or melted down. Materials and blueprints drop from barbarians.
- Awakening: A commander who reaches the highest stars, the top level and the strongest skills can grow further, stage by stage, through Awakening.
Extra commanders and swaps
Besides the main commander, an army can have a second and a third commander; the third slot unlocks with the main commander's level. With a Commander Swap you can exchange the level, experience, stars and skills of two commanders of the same rarity, so your effort is never wasted.
Daily quests and events
- Daily Quests: Renewed every day. Collecting harvests, training troops, researching and beating barbarians give points, and points open chests with resources, speed-ups, keys, Diamonds and statues.
- Races: The Power Race, Build Race, Training Race, Barbarian Hunt, Research Race and Harvest Festival come in turn. The more points you collect, the more reward tiers you reach.
- Barbarian Raid: While the event is on, barbarians attack your city. The Watchtower warns you before they arrive. Your troops do not die in a raid, but if you lose, your walls take damage and resources above what the Storehouse protects are plundered.
- Login rewards and achievements: Logging in every day and reaching goals bring extra rewards.
Tips for new players
- Upgrade your resource buildings early and collect them often.
- Push your City Center forward, but keep your walls and required buildings up to date.
- Collect your Campaign Idle Earnings every time you return, and do not miss the free Quick Earnings of the day.
- Grow your Hospital and Storehouse together with your army and resources.
- Build your army around class advantage; do not rely on one class only.
- Spend your statues on a few commanders at first; spread too thin, none of them gets strong.
- Join an alliance: help cuts your timers and alliance territory gives you strength on the map.
